Crockrell on pace to surpass 5,000 points Calabasas sophomore posts third-highest first-day heptathlon total at Arcadia Multis to maintain advantage over Hall, Jones; Farmer closes strong in 400, but Lester holds on to lead as both in position for big decathlon PRs By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Calabasas CA sophomore Tierra Crockrell put herself in position to become only the fourth female athlete to score 5,000 points in the heptathlon in the 10-year history of the Arcadia Multis with her first-day performance Thursday at Arcadia High. Crockrell accumulated 3,160 points, the third-highest opening-day total, to hold the advantage over Valor Christian CO sophomore Anna Hall with 3,032 points. Crockrell, the two-time pentathlon winner at the California Winter Outdoor Championships, capped her day by clocking 24.66 in the 200 meters after taking the lead with a 36-4 (11.07m) in the shot put. TIERRA CROCKRELL INTERVIEW Hall, the New Balance Nationals Indoor pentathlon champion March 11 in New York, demonstrated significant improvement from her first-day total of 2,894 points when she placed seventh with 4,517 overall in June at her last heptathlon at New Balance Nationals Outdoor. Hall, one of nine heptathletes in meet history to score more than 3,000 points on the first day, prevailed in the high jump by clearing 5-7 (1.70m). ANNA HALL INTERVIEW Allie Jones of San Marcos CA got off to a strong start by winning the 100-meter hurdles in 14.10 and finished the first day in third place with 3,017 points. Despite American Fork UT senior Justin Harmon leading the decathlon after two events, by the midway point of the competition, it was Marietta GA senior Skyler Lester and Rancho Bernardo CA junior Josh Farmer who had separated themselves from the pack. Lester, on the strength of winning the shot put with an effort of 43-1 (13.13m) and clearing 6-6.75 (2.00m) in the high jump, accumulated 3,503 points. SKYLER LESTER INTERVIEW Farmer, who ran a personal-best 50.77 in the 400, closed on the leader and finished with 3,467 points. JOSH FARMER INTERVIEW
